Below is an overview of the common pressure ulcers we treat and our clinical approach to care:
Pressure Ulcer Classifications:
- Stage I: Intact skin with non-blanchable redness, often over bony prominences. The area may
be painful, firm, soft, or have a different temperature than adjacent skin.
- Stage II: Partial-thickness skin loss presenting as a shallow open wound with a red-pink bed,
or as an intact or ruptured serum-filled blister.
- Stage III: Full-thickness tissue loss. Subcutaneous fat may be visible, but bone, tendon, and
muscle are not exposed. This stage may include undermining or tunneling.
- Stage IV: Full-thickness tissue loss with exposed bone, tendon, or muscle. Slough or eschar
may be present, and there is a high risk of osteomyelitis.d
- Deep Tissue Injury: A localized area of purple or maroon discoloration or a blood-filled blister
caused by damage to underlying soft tissue. These can deteriorate rapidly even with optimal
treatment.

- Healable Wounds: Our philosophy focuses on correcting the underlying cause and promoting
active tissue regeneration.
- Non-Healable / Palliative Wounds: For patients at the end of life or those with inadequate
blood flow, our goal shifts to comfort. We focus on minimizing pain, odor, and bleeding to
preserve the patient’s dignity.
